Dr. Switaj is a registered psychologist with a clinical and counseling focus. She has a Doctorate from University of Toronto (OISE) and two Masters (Counseling and Educational Psychology) from McGill University. She has completed advanced studies at Harvard University (Centre for Moral Development) and advanced level training in Mind-Body medicine (Psychoneuroimmunology), Hypnosis, Shamanism, Meditation/Mindfulness and Pastoral Care.
Dr. Switaj's approach can best be described as integrated, using empirical and evidence based tools and techniques from a variety of well-articulated models of psychotherapy, assessment and treatment form her 25 years of experience. She uses a multifaceted assessment lens, gathering information from clients' unique biological, psychological, social and spiritual stories. She is client focused - working with the client to fashion a therapeutic/treatment plan that best fits the client's goals and personal resources. She is a registered clinical and counseling psychologist hence her work may be covered by third party insurance.
Dr. Switaj is director and co-founder of Partners in Healing, providing support for people navigating through life-altering medical crisis, coaching them in ways to regain their sense of control, confidence and peace as they journey towards healing.
She has developed and runs ongoing workshops and psycho-educational groups including:
-Be Not Afraid: Mindfulness Based Mood Regulation
-Shamanic Journeying: Ancient Techniques for Health, Healing and Personal Change.
-Learning to Walk in the Dark- (for people diagnosed with life threatening illnesses)
-We Are Not Alone: Techniques for Accessing Healing Wisdom
Dr. Switaj is also a research-scientist practitioner with interests in neurobiology, neuropsychology, Buddhist Psychology and Shamanism. Her research is focused on the development of our naturally occurring human capacity to intentionally shift our focus of attention and use altered states of consciousness to promote health, healing and problem solving.
