Dr. Lisa Sicoli is a registered psychologist providing psychological assessments and individual therapy for adults. Dr. Sicoli received her Masters degree in Counselling at The University of Western Ontario and her Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at York University. During her studies, her research interests included a) understanding how individuals work through feelings of hopelessness in therapy and, b) understanding the relationship between attachment in adult relationships and the development of posttraumatic stress symptoms among individuals who experienced maltreatment as children. She has practiced for over 10 years in various settings including the Waterloo Region HSO Mental Health Services, National Injury Rehabilitation Center in Toronto, the Counselling Centers at Conestoga College and The University of Western Ontario, Metropolitan Toronto Forensic Service, Vanier Center for Women in Brampton and, London Psychiatric Hospital. Her therapeutic work has also been informed by her volunteer work with the Rape Crisis Centers as a crisis line worker in London and as an executive member of the board of directors in Mississauga.
Dr. Sicoli’s main interests include helping individuals resolve unfinished business with significant others, forgiveness, trauma and abuse, ADHD, depression including postpartum depression and, working with individuals who have been touched by trauma (ie., sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment) or struggling with infertility. Dr. Sicoli’s also works with individuals who are coping with issues such as anxiety (including post-
traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias), bipolar illness, bulimia, body dysmorphic disorder, self-esteem, interpersonal relationship struggles, assertiveness, stress management and, bereavement and loss. Dr. Sicoli has facilitated numerous groups and workshops throughout the years on a variety of topics such as self-esteem, sexual abuse, bereavement and loss, procrastination, stress management and career planning. Upcoming workshops and groups that will be offered by Dr. Sicoli include Enhancing Self-Esteem, Infertility Group for Women and, Developing Emotional Intelligence.
Dr. Sicoli’s predominant training is in Emotion-Focused therapy however, she also offers Cognitive-Behavioural therapy for individuals whose needs and goals are best suited for this therapy modality. Emotion-Focused therapy has gained popularity in the past 15 years as research and clinical experience have shown that focusing on understanding key emotional experiences is an integral component in promoting positive change.
