Dr. Brown is a registered psychologist under the jurisdiction of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Her specialty in practice is providing both assessment and treatment to children, adolescents and their families coping with a wide variety of learning and mental health issues. She also has specialized knowledge of health and rehabilitation psychology which involves working with children with physical disabilities or who are coping with chronic or acute illness.
Dr. Brown performs in-depth psychological and psychoeducational assessments that help to identify how children learn and outline detailed strategies for intervention. The therapy she provides is tailored to the individual needs of the children and families with whom she works. However, she generally works within a play therapy orientation with younger individuals and within a cognitive-behavioural structure with older children and adolescents. Dr. Brown also provides clinical supervision for university students completing their education and for post-graduate professionals who are in the process of becoming registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Dr. Brown received her doctorate in clinical developmental psychology from York University. She has worked in the Pediatric Oncology unit at the Hospital for Sick Children supporting children being treated for life-threatening illness and has also received extensive training providing services to children with complex physical challenges while working at Bloorview Kids Rehab (formerly Bloorview MacMillan Children’s Centre). Dr. Brown has also worked at Lutherwood in Kitchener-Waterloo, providing assessments and treatment to children suffering from learning and mental health difficulties. She has a great deal of training and experience working with children and adolescents in a variety of settings including those who live at home, others who have spent time in the care of Children’s Aid, and still others who live in a group home environment or who require hospitalization or a physical rehabilitation setting.
She loves her work and feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with children in need.
